Today, the state has the second-largest LGBT population in the nation, according to a recent report. It’s one of the very few places where queer women can congregate and just be queer. The disco-fueled, legendary four-floor bar called the 1270 opened in 1969, just a few doors down from the spaces Ramrod and Machine would eventually occupy at 1270 Boylston. Massachusetts was the first state to legalize same-sex marriage and has long been home to establishments that support and advocate for gay rights and inclusion.
